While it remains uncertain whether Positive Train Control could have stopped a train from crashing into New Jersey Transit’s Hoboken terminal last month, the accident has reignited calls for investing in the technology — and generally investing in transit systems.

Bob Menendez and Cory Booker sent a letter to Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx urging DOT to approve NJ Transit’s request for $10 million in funding for the third phase of a system made to interact with Amtrak’s PTC setup and technology that freight railroads plan to install.
