DOT is the latest agency to get swept into the Trump administration’s moves against independent government watchdogs in recent months. Three high-ranking House Democrats on Tuesday demanded the reinstatement of Mitchell Behm, who they say was removed as acting DOT inspector general over the weekend and replaced with a Trump appointee, Skip Elliott, who is also hanging on to his role as PHMSA administrator.
