DOT tries to clear up connected car tech stance

Confused about exactly what DOT’s position is on reserving the 5.9 GHz band of spectrum for vehicle safety communications technology? Apparently you’re not alone. On Wednesday, DOT unexpectedly dispatched Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy Finch Fulton to an interest group briefing on the topic, where he read a prepared statement. “We don’t want any word to be taken out of context,” Fulton told the crowd. “We’re trying to be very clear, and I would like to keep my job.” The statement: “Preserving all the 5.9 GHz band for transportation communications is essential for public safety, today and in the future.” He left without taking questions.
