MBTA outsource plan could save $65 million

A new plan to outsource maintenance on the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA) bus fleet could save the agency up to $40 million a year, but could affect hundreds of workers, reported the Boston Herald.

The recommendations, part of an internal report produced consultants hired by the agency, also target the agency’s in-station customer service operations as an outsourcing “opportunity,” as well as additional maintenance of its new Red Line and Orange Line vehicles, the report said.
