Michigan DOT launches new virtual tool to track bridge bundling initiative

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is now using an online tool that allows the public to track the state’s initiative to bundle bridge projects together to make them more cost-effective.

The bridge bundling initiative also addresses multiple local agency bridges under one project contract. MDOT expects this will improve bridge conditions on local routes statewide, increase economies of scale, and streamline coordination and permitting.

The agency’s pilot project bundles 19 locally owned bridges. Using the online tool, residents can view photos of the construction process and information for each of these projects, including detour routes, updates, and percent completion.
