Infrastructure is in the House

The House is set to pass its $1.5 trillion infrastructure bill, H.R. 2 (116), this week, advancing, among many other things, a five-year reauthorization of surface transportation programs. Passage of the Democrat-written bill is a given in the House, but other parts of the process remain up in the air.

Members have filed 367 amendments, with 80 coming from Republicans, 54 bipartisan, and the rest from Democrats. The Rules Committee meets today to narrow down which of those amendments can be considered on the House floor. Beyond that, House leaders are looking for ways to limit votes on individual amendments, each of which would take as long as an hour to vote on due to the Covid-19 voting procedures.
