For-hire trucking added 3,400 jobs in August, and the unemployment rate held steady at 4.9%, the Labor Department reported Sept. 2.
The gains were scored after the sector added 1,700 jobs in July and lost 6,300 in June. The total number of for-hire trucking jobs last month stood at 1,459,700 compared with 1,456,300 in July. Transportation and warehousing, which includes trucking, added 14,900 positions, with warehousing and storage accounting for 4,300, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported.
