Senate adds teeth to 737 MAX bill

Less than two weeks after Senate Commerce Chair Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) floated legislation on the Boeing 737 MAX that was then slammed by safety advocates and family members of the victims of last year’s MAX crash, a new (and newly bipartisan) bill has emerged that would make stronger changes to the FAA’s delegation program.

The new draft would not do away with the Organization Designation Authorization program, but it would require the FAA to sign off on the selection of employees performing “delegated” tasks, our Brianna Gurciullo reports. Read more about the bill, which would also require the FAA to assign its own engineers or inspectors to be advisers to private employees at certain manufacturing companies.
