Lawmakers call for second DOT investigation on 737

CONGRESS EYEING PILOT TRAINING, AUTOMATION: As scooped by your host, on Friday Transportation Committee leaders in the House wrote to DOT’s inspector general, asking for a new investigation into international pilot training standards and cockpit automation. The request is on top of a separate probe the IG has launched into the FAA’s certification of the 737 MAX. House Transportation ranking member Sam Graves (R-Mo.) is leading the charge for an investigation on pilot training, which has been his main focus as the situation unfolded. He’s questioned whether pilots in other parts of the world are given proper training, citing an increase in automation in aviation. “The pilots on both of those crashes were fighting the airplane. They weren’t flying it, they were fighting it,” he said in a recent interview.
