How Congress could have avoided airline workforce fight

As lawmakers continue to slam airlines for reducing workers’ hours in response to floundering revenues, arguing that it violates the intent of the CARES Act, it’s worth noting that they had a chance to nip the practice in finalizing the law. As your host reported for Pros on Friday, a House proposal would have made airlines keep paying workers 100 percent of their wages for their “expected” work hours throughout the term of the funding airlines got through the bill. Instead, the final text of the bill simply prevents airlines from reducing wages or benefits, leaving a gap that several carriers have taken advantage of.
