GM calls for national EV program

General Motors said Friday that it wants the Trump administration to create a National Zero Emission Vehicle program, modeled on California’s efforts. GM, the country’s biggest automaker, said a requirement that a certain percentage of cars sold to be zero-emissions vehicles could result in 7 million EVs on U.S. roads by 2030, according to Reuters. It’s not an idea that President Donald Trump is likely to accept: His administration’s actions have pointed in the other direction, aiming to reverse Obama-era emissions standards. GM’s proposal hasn’t earned goodwill among environmentalists, either. The Sierra Club and called the plan a “desperate attempt to distract from their support for Donald Trump’s efforts to roll back the clean car standards.”
