The only cures that could really heal airlines in the short-term are the same elusive measures that everyone’s already hoping for amid the pandemic, like a vaccine or widespread, easily accessible testing. Barring that, our Brianna Gurciullo reports in a new story looking at the industry’s fate, airline travel could take months or years to recover.

The new reality carriers are looking at: “Fewer, more expensive flights on slimmed-down airlines that have laid off thousands of employees and cut ties to many contractors,” as Brianna writes. Layoffs later this year are likely unavoidable, even as labor groups push to protect jobs.
